Who will get relegated? Reading vs Villa, QPR vs Sunderland and West Brom vs Swansea

The bottom teams of the Premier League will be in action this weekend and will be all out to get desperation points. Reading will host Aston Villa, QPR will face Sunderland and West Brom against Swansea on Saturday, March 9th at 3pm.

Reading and Aston Villa will be facing off against each other in a vital “6 pointer” clash which will see the winner leapfrog out of the relegation zone above Wigan.  Aston Villa is 18th in the table and has the worse goal difference to Wigan as both clubs are on 24 points. Reading, on the other hand, are putting the pressure on both clubs as they sit in 19th on 23 points – just a point behind both clubs. It will be Reading who have the home advantage which will be a relief to the Royals fans who have seen their side pick up only one victory on the road this season, in comparison to the 4 wins at home. However, both sides have only picked up one win out of their last five games and will be under no illusions that Saturdays game is a must win and will have to give everything to help kick start relegation battle.

The other side occupying the relegation zone are QPR, who are rock bottom of the league and have been for almost the whole of the season. However, after last week’s huge 3 points picked up by the Hoops away at Southampton it sent out a “better late than never” message and shows that Harry Redknapp’s side are not going down without a fight. After seemingly been down and out, QPR were the only team in the bottom to win last week – putting them right back in the frame for the fight for survival. Now just 4 points off safety they will be looking to attempt back to back wins as they play hosts to Sunderland, who seemingly would be just out of the relegation battle as they find themselves on 30 points – ten more than QPR.

The final big game of the day see’s West Brom host the newly crowned Carling Cup champion Swansea. Both sides go into the game with 40 points in 8th and 9th place respectively. Swansea’s Carling Cup heroics mean that they are already qualified for next year’s Europa league – meaning the game may be more important to the home supporters whose last chance of European football next year will be via league position qualification. Nevertheless, Swansea will not lie down easily.
