What a night for Arsenal! The contract negotiations will be tough after the Theo Walcott show last night with 3 goals and 2 assist as a lot of teams are interested in the former Southampton player. Wenger, however, is still hopeful for a new deal.
Arsenal hosted a very defensive Newcastle at the Emirates Stadium in front of 60,000 fans. Theo Walcott scored the opener in the 19th minute after a brilliant pass by Podolski. Demba Ba scored the equalizer in the 42nd minute with a deflected free kick from outside the penalty box. Newcastle played well until the half and defended deep in their half. Oxlade-Chamberlain brought Arsenal back after the half in the 49th minute – 2:1 Arsenal. However, Newcastle didn’t give up and scored the equalizer in the 58th minute through Sylvain Marveaux . Both teams kept attacking each other. Lukas Podolski found the back of the net in the 63rd minute after a Wilshere cross – 3:2 Arsenal. Again, they came back and scored the 3:3 just 5 minutes later through Demba Ba. However, Newcastle ran out of steam in the last 20 minutes and the Walcott show began. First Walcott brought Arsenal back in to the lead in the 73rd minute, than he set-up two Giroud goals in the 84th and 87th minute, before he converted to the final 7:3 in the 90th minute.
Surely Arsenal will push for a Walcott extension soon as Walcott’s contract expires at the end of the season and he is free to speak to other clubs from next week and Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United are all interested in the striker.
