Manchester City will travel to Loftus Road on Tuesday, January 29th to face Queens Park Rangers. This fixture will bring back great memories for both clubs with one of their fixtures last year bringing two different types of joy to the clubs – one gained survival in the Premier League while the other won the Premier League.
Last time, QPR lost in the last fixture of the season, but still managed to stay out of the relegation zone on goal difference. For Manchester City, on the other side, i had looked done and dusted until injury time and that famous “Aguero” goal which saw them lift the league title for the first time in 44 years. 8 months on and the league positions aren’t too dis-similar from last season. ManCity is fighting it out for top spot while the Queens Park Rangers are scrapping to get off the foot of the table.
Despite their position in the table, which is a working progress, things in the QPR camp have changed a lot. Harry Redknapp is now in the hot seat and he is in the process of working his magic once again to save QPR. Since his arrival, Rangers have played 12 games and only lost three of them. Slowly but surely they are picking up points and the gap between 20th place and the teams above is gradually disappearing. QPR are also boosted by the capture of striker Loic Remy from QPR, he scored on his debut against West Ham and will want to prove himself in this league. This weekend QPR host MK Dons in the FA Cup Fourth Round and realistically it should be a routine win, but we should never write off anyone in the FA Cup.
Manchester City continue to keep the pressure on at the top of the table in 2nd place with 51 points. They are 5 points behind leaders and neighbours Manchester United and will be delighted with Spurs holding Man United to a draw in the snowy conditions at the weekend. If anyone was to look at the league table they would almost certainly say that Manchester City should win this game against QPR, 2nd place vs 20th place. But the Premier League continues to be unpredictable and QPR proved that with their win against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. It’ll be a tough game for Manchester City, travelling to London on a cold Tuesday night in January and they will be no doubt up against it. In the past two years these two sides have met three times,Manchester City winning all three and they will be looking for the clean sweep.
