The relegation battle continues. Wigan Athletic will be hosting the potential top 4 finishers, Tottenham Hotspurs, as they fight for their lives to survive in the Premier League. Newcastle will be looking to seal their Premier League status when they come up against Liverpool FC on Saturday.
Wigan vs. Tottenham on Saturday, April 27th at 3:00pm
Wigan is the ultimate relegation team and always seems to find the correct formula as the season ends. Their battle was heavily dented last weekend when they suffered a 2-0 defeat to West Ham United and with other relegation stricken clubs like Sunderland, Stoke and Norwich City all winning. Maloney is to player to watch. So far, he has knocked up 6 goals and 5 assists this season playing a vital part in the Latics midfield.
The Spurs, on the other side, are in a tightly contested race with Chelsea, Arsenal and potentially Everton for the final 2 Champions League places. Still outside of the top four, but only 2points behind Arsenal with a game in hand with their North London rivals playing the newly crowned Champions Manchester United on Sunday. Andre Villas-Boas’ side produced an incredible comeback against Manchester City last weekend, but that will have been pointless if Tottenham fail to grab hold of all 3 points against Wigan. Gareth Bale just returned and is in top shape. The Welsh international this season has racked up 23 goals and produced a total of 9 assists which has lead the push for receiving the Player of the Season Award within the premier League
Newcastle vs Liverpool on Saturday, April 27th at 5:30pm
The Magpies have only recorded one victory in the last five Premier league matches which has seen them get dragged closer to the relegation scrap. Even though they’ve had a good run within the Europa League, Newcastle’s league performances have been less than acceptable from their own point of view. Even though they are still 6 points away from the drop the Newcastle faithful will be hoping to put this season behind them. They will also be looking to make amends and put the Derby defeat behind them last time out against Sunderland. Papiss Cissé is the man to watch. This season, Cissé has scored 16 goals for Newcastle, which is more than double the amount of the player behind him.
The Reds will be looking to get everyone to concentrate on their footballing ability rather than the additional bad publicity that has been attached to Luis Suarez in the previous week. All of the hype will be attached to Suarez’s 10 match ban for biting Ivanovic but Brendon Rodgers will be hoping for a positive reaction from the rest of the team. Steven Gerrard knows it will be a tough challenge against the Magpies. The Liverpool legend is known for his tough tackling, long range strikes and dedication.
