28.09.2013 Only 5 games into the new Premier League campaign and things are starting to shape up. Pressure is mounting on some managers and players, whilst other clubs have got off to an unexpectedly good start. Here we will take a look at some of this weekend’s action in the Premier League.
Tottenham vs Chelsea on Saturday, September 28th at 12:45
One of the stand out fixtures of this weekend is Spurs vs Chelsea. The game will see former allies Andre Villas Boas and Jose Mourinho compete against each other for the first time since AVB moved on from Inter Milan where Mourinho was managing. The game promises to be top quality with both teams possessing some the top players the league has to offer. Tottenham currently sit in 2nd position having lost just one of their 5 games. In those 5 games, Tottenham have conceded only 1 goal. Chelsea go into the game in 4th position, 2 points behind Spurs. Like Spurs, Chelsea’s defence have had a good start to the season only allowing 2 goals to get past them. Last time the 2 sides faced each other, the game ended in a 2-2 draw.
Manchester United vs West Bromwich on Saturday, September 28th at 15:00
New Manchester United manager David M0yes hasn’t got off to the best of starts so far this season having seen his side win just 2 of their first 5 games. A resounding 4-1 defeat against local rivals Manchester City didn’t help the new man at the helm however a mid-week victory over Liverpool in the Capital One Cup, was an important win. West Brom has failed to match the early season form they displayed last season, picking up just 5 points from a possible 15. Steve Clarke will be looking to see his side improve as the season progresses in order to start rising back up the table. A mid-week penalty shoot-out defeat to Arsenal will have fatigued the side however their performance in that game will give WBA fans increased confidence. The last time the 2 sides met was on the final day of the 2012/13 season. It was Sir Alex Ferguson‘s last game in charge and ended in an enthralling 5-5 draw.
