The Monte Carlo Rolex Masters returns on 14th April 2013 to the Monte Carlo Country Club in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, France, near Monte Carlo, Monaco. It is the 107th edition of the annual tennis tournament and it will conclude on 21st April 2013.

The tournament is for male professional tennis players only and is played on outdoor clay courts. It is part of the ATP World Tour Maters 1000 on the ATP Tour. Last year’s winner Rafael Nadal has won the tournament a record eight consecutive times, making the Spaniard favourite to win this year’s edition. However, the number one and number two seed, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray respectively, will be looking to end this run and take the title from Nadal. The tournament also contains many other top talents, such as David Ferrer, Tomas Berdych and Jo Wilfried-Tsonga.

Monte Carlo Country Club is the home of the ATP’s Monte Carlo Masters tournament. It is also the base of the Monte Carlo Tennis Academy. It has an overall capacity of 9,000 people.

The first Monte Carlo Masters was held in 1997 and was won by Reggie Doherty. Reggie and his brother, Laurie, dominated the tournament in its first ten years, winning all ten editions between them. The Masters was part of the part of the Grand Prix Tour and Grand Prix Championship Series, before it became an ATP Championship Series Single Week. Rafa Nadal won 8 consecutive titles between 2005 and 2012 and is the record champion of the Monte Carlo Masters. In 2012, Nadal beat Djokovic 6-3, 6-1, to gain his first title of the year and the 47th of his career.
