The 2013/14 season will be a fresh start for the former Premier League champions, with a new manager and addition signings they will be throwing everything including the kitchen sink to prevent a repeat of the trophy-less 12/13 season.
Current
Manchester City prepare for the highly anticipated 2013/14 season with new manager Manuel Pellegrini with a globetrotting pre-season tour, which sees the Manchester side travel to South Africa to take part in a Nelson Mandela invitational tournament where they will compete against to local sides. From there City will travel to Asia, Germany and Finland where they will meet some of Europes top clubs before their opening game at home to Newcastle United.
With the continuous input of cash into the club, Manchester City will have their expectations as high as winning the Premier League title, the advanced stages of the Champions League and both domestic trophies. Pellegrini stated in his first press conference as the new City boss “I want to play well and if I give good performances then I think the fans will like me” and told how he is expected to win 5 trophies in 5years.
Last year’s performance was a little disappointing for the Manchester City fans, as they have now got the taste for trophies. Finishing in 2nd place to their rivals Manchester United leaves the bragging rights to the red half of the city and all football fans were shocked when Manchester City were defeated by Wigan Athletic in the FA cup final to finish the disappointing season without a trophy.
The major talking point for Manchester City is the departure of fan favourite Carlos Tevez, who has admitted on several, occasions his intention to leave the club. Tevez has joined the Italian giants Juventus Turin in a deal worth around £10million.
Manchester City has attempted to strengthen their squad with the additions of Spanish international Jesus Navas and Brazillian Fernandinho. Navas was one of the stand out players in Spains participation of the FIFA Confederations Cup. Whilst Fernandinho signed from Shakhtar Donets, he is known for his blistering pace and ability to shoot from long distances.
Whilst the new era of managers in the Premier League proceeds, Manchester City are amongst the new faces with the presence of Manuel Pellegrini. The Chillian manager signed from Spanish side Malaga at the end of the 2012/13 season. Pellegrini is certainly not short of experience when it comes to winning titles and other domestic trophies so Manchester City fans will have high expectations when the new season arrives.

Manchester City – 2012/13
Manchester City F.C. is also known as City or the Citizen and is based in Manchester. Biggest rival in the city is certainly Manchester United. To this day, City is dreaming of bringing back the glory era of the 1960’s and invested heavily in the last decade. However, the 2011/12 season was one of the best seasons in recent years – winning the Premier League title in a dramatic finish – the first Premier League title in 44 years.
Current Situation
The dramatic win against arch-rival Manchester United in April and two late goals by Dzeko and Aguerro in the stoppage time against Queens Park Rangers to secure the Premier League title after 44 years was an absolute highlight of the past season.
Robert Manchini’s current squad is packed with exceptional players such as Sergio Aguerro (23 goals in the 2011/12 season), David Silva, Mario Balotelli (13 goals), Edin Dzeko (14 goals) and Samir Nasri. Defender Micah Richards supports the attacking midfield and can be extremely dangerous for the opponent. It remains to be seen who will join City for the upcoming season. However, expectations are high.
History
Manchester City F.C. was founded in 1880 as St. Marks’s and renamed to Manchester City F.C. in 1894. Throughout the history of the club, ManCity won 3 Premier League-, 5 FA Cup-, 2 Football League Cup-and 1 UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup title with the most successful period in the 1960’s and early 70’s. The success of the 70’s was followed by a period of ups and downs with the lowest point in 1996 when City got relegated to Division Two.
Manchester City was purchased by the Abu Dhabi United Group in 2008 and by 2009, City was fully owned by Sheikh Mansour, one of football’s wealthiest owners. Since then, ManCity has been in a period of significant transformation in order and took transfer spending to an unprecedented level. Players like Carlos Tévez, David Silva, Mario Balotelli, and Sergio Agüero joined the club and were key in the 2011/12 Premier League title.
