Gareth Bale will join Real Madrid after agreeing to a £85.3m world record transfer move from Spurs. The Welsh international will signed a deal for 6 years and will earn £300.000 per week.
Bale will have his medical on Monday and will be officially presented by Real Madrid on Monday, September 2nd at 12:00 BST.
The Player of the Year said: “I have had six very happy years at Tottenham but it’s the right time to say goodbye…I know many players talk of their desire to join the club of their boyhood dreams, but I can honestly say, this is my dream come true.”
Bale joined the Spurs in 2007 for £10m from Southampton and developed into one of the best European players. Last season, the left foot scored 26 goals.
However, Bale will have to prove at Real that he is worth the money. Last year, Luka Modric, moved to Real, but he wasn’t able to push himself into a starting eleven. It will be a mental test for Bale in a country where he doesn’t know the culture and tradition, where he can’t speak the language and in a league where the style of football is different. It will take time for Bale to settle down at Real, but he has all the qualities to succeed in La Liga.
Tottenham, in the meantime, already brought in seven quality new players to compentate Bale’s move. The new Spurs signings include Roberto Soldado, Erik Lamela, Paulinho, Christian Eriksen, Vlad Chiriches, Etienne Capoue and Nacer Chadli.
However, Daniel Levy admitted that he sold Bale reluctantly. He said: “Gareth was a player we had absolutely no intention of selling as we look to build for the future…He is a player whose career we have fostered and developed and he was only a year into his new four-year contract…Such has been the attention from Real Madrid, and so great is Gareth’s desire to join them, we have taken the view that the player will not be sufficiently committed to our campaign in the current season. We have, therefore, with great reluctance, agreed to this sale and do so in the knowledge that we have an exceptionally strong squad to which we have added no fewer than seven top internationals.”
