Frank Lampard breaks Chelsea record and became only the second man to score 200 goals for Chelsea.
Frank Lampard became only the second man to score 200 goals for Chelsea as the Blues recorded a 2-0 victory over West Ham United to move back into third place in the Barclays Premier League table.
A potentially tricky London derby got off to the best possible start for those inside Stamford Bridge last Sunday as Super Frank headed home Eden Hazard’s cross to bring up his double ton of goals for the club – a figure previously only reached by Bobby Tambling , who finished his Chelsea career with 202 strikes to his name.
Hazard made the victory safe after half-time and, as the statistics show, it was an imperious display by the Belgian schemer. Although he earned the praise of former Blues wingers Pat Nevin and Clive Walker, most of the plaudits were reserved for our milestone man.
Juan Mata described the Blues No.8 as “a living legend of our club and European football” in his latest blog, while Rafael Benitez declared it was “a fantastic achievement – especially for a midfielder.”
The last word , however, goes to the man himself: “It’s a special personal achievement because the fans were amazing when I did it. When I first signed for the club I would have been pleased to play 200 games, let alone score 200 goals, so I’m really happy.”
