Bayern Munich are the current holders of the Champions League title after last season’s 2-1 win over domestic rivals Borussia Dortmund in the final at Wembley stadium. This trophy along with the Bundesliga title and the German Cup final success against Stuttgart completed an historic treble for the Bavarians.
Current
After the perfect season last year, Bayern Munich Coach Jupp Heynckes has now stepped aside, with former Barcelona Coach Pep Guardiola taking over a squad packed with talent and on a high after their momentous treble last season. Their squad contains flying wingers Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben who feed the prolific striking duo of Mario Gomez and Mario Mandzukic.
It looks a tough ask for Pep Guardiola to follow on from such an amazing season, but given his track record at Barcelona, where he won two Champions League’s and three La Liga titles, he is more than adequately capable of continuing Bayern Munich’s success. The Bavarian’s have already improved the playing staff by capturing playmaker Mario Gotze from rivals Borussia Dortmund for around £31 million, with reports that he will not be the last of the new arrivals given the new man at the helm.

In Germany the main rivals to Bayern Munich are Borussia Dortmund, who were beaten to both the German Title and the Champions League by the Bavarian’s last year, so will be the main threats in the forthcoming campaign. Other rivals in Germany for Bayern Munich are Schalke 04 and Hamburg, as they both have some excellent players in their squads, thus could beat anybody on their day.
In Europe Bayern Munich’s rivals are the Spanish duo of Real Madrid and Guardiola’s former side Barcelona, with English clubs Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal also major threats to holders Bayern Munich. Other formidable foes could be the Italian Champions Juventus and big spending Paris Saint-Germain.
Stadium
Bayern Munich play their home games at the fantastic Allianz Arena situated in the north of the city. This is a truly modern stadium with an innovative coloured facade finish which ensures the whole stadium lights up red from the outside. The arena has a 70,000 seating capacity which creates an amazing atmosphere for Bayern Munich.
Season 2013/14
FC Bayern Munich is the most successful team in Germany winning 22 German league titles, 15 cup titles and 4 Champions League titles. The last league title was won by Bayern in 2010, since then Bayern Munich lost the title to Borussia Dortmund in two consecutive seasons.
Current Situation
FC Bayern Munich started the Bundesliga season 2011/12 with an incredible series without conceding any goals in the Champions League, Bundesliga and German cup. FC Bayern showed its potential with a 7-0 against Hoffenheim, a 7:1 against Basel and a 6:0 against Hertha BSC Berlin early in the season. However, the decline came after a lengthy injury of Bastian Schweinsteiger. Bayern was never able to replace Schweinsteiger on the field, which ultimately cost the league title.
The 2011/12 season was Bayern Munich’s toughest season in the history of the club – coming second in the league, cup and Champions League. The big question for the upcoming Bundesliga season is whether Bayern Munich is able to break the incredible dominance of Borussia Dortmund.
The expectations are high for the FC Bayern Munich. They already added new players with Xherdan Shaqiri, Claudio Pizarro and Mario Mandzukic. In addition, Dante (Borussia Mönchengladbach) joined as an alternative for central defence. Bayern also added a second goalkeeper with Tom Strong (TSG Hoffenheim).
The hope for the 2012/13 season rests on head coach Jupp Heynckes. Although the club reached the final in the German cup and Champions League, Jupp Heynckes will only be measured with titles.
