The dates for the FA Cup semi-finals have been confirmed by the FA. Millwall vs Wigan Athletic will be played on Saturday 13th April at 5:15pm, while one of either Manchester United or Chelsea will play Manchester City on Sunday the 14th April, kicking off at 4pm.
Millwall vs Wigan Athletic
Millwall reached the semi-finals after a 1-0 replay victory over Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park. Millwall have already tasted victory at Wembley having beat Swindon Town in the league one play off final at the end of the 2010 season. Wigan have reached the FA Cup semi-finals for the first time in the clubs history having overcome the challenge of Everton in the Quarter finals. It will be the first time that Wigan Athletic have played at the new Wembley stadium, having played a number of times at old Wembley. One of their Wembley appearances ended in a 1-0 victory over Millwall in the Freight Rover trophy in 1999. Both teams have the added incentive of a potential place in next year’s Europa league, should they reach the final.
Manchester United/Chelsea vs Manchester City
Reigning champions Chelsea and current Premier League leaders Manchester United will have to battle it out again having drawn 2-2 in their FA Cup semi-final. The winners of the replay will have to overcome the challenge of Premier League champions and 2010 FA Cup winners, Manchester City in the semi-final. They reached the semi-finals after an emphatic 5-0 victory over championship opposition, Barnsley. For both Chelsea and Manchester City, The FA Cup is their last remaining chance of winning silverware before the end of the season. In comparison, Manchester United are still on course to win a Premier League and FA Cup double. Should Manchester United reach the final it will be the 19th time they have appeared in it, more times than any other team.
