Manchester City qualified for the second FA Cup final in 3 years after beating Chelsea with 1:2 in a dramatic game on Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final at Wembley.
For both teams, the entire season rested on this game. Chelsea expected a tough game against Manchester City as they haven’t won any of the four games this season against Robert Mancini’s team. Chelsea also just returned from a tough game in the Europa League against Rubin Kazan.
Chelsea started slow and City came to their opening chance in the 3rd minute when Aguero took a shot from the far left. City took advantage of their dominance in the 34th minute. Toure made a great run in midfield and set-up Aguero for the second time. Aguero missed against Azpilicueta before Nasri finished the rebound – 0:1 City. City kept pushing and nearly extended the lead in the 39th minute when Milner missed against Cech.
The second half started just like the first one with City being the dominate team. Aguero extended the lead in the 46th minute when he scored a free header after a Barry cross. However, it was poor defending from Chelsea with no pressure on the ball and Agurero with a free header – 0:2 City. Benitez introduced Torres and the game changed immediately. First , Ba scored the just minutes later after he scored an acrobatic shot past City keeper Pantilimon. Then Pantilimon had to make several great saved to deny Chelsea’s equalizer. First, he had to dive at Mata’s feet before he had to save another Ba shot. Chelsea was fearless in the last 30 minutes and should have received a penalty when Torres was held by Kompany.
Manchester City beat Chelsea with 1:2 in a fabulous semi-final and nearly Chelsea comeback. It was an important game for City and will face Wigan in the FA Cup final on May 11th.
