IBF world super-middleweight champion Carl Froch will fight WBA belt holder Mikkel Kessler at the O2 Arena in London on May 25th. It is a rematch of the 2010 fight in Denmark when Kessler outpointed Froch.
Mikkel Kessler
Kessler was born in 1979 and has won 46 of his 48 professional fights. He is the current WBA champion and his last fight was a third-round victory over Brian Magee in December. The fight against Carl Froch is the second time that Kessler boxes in England. The last time, 5 years ago, Kessler lost to Welsh champion Joe Calzaghe and suffered his first professional defeat in front of 50,000 at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff. Kessler is a former two-time WBA and two-time WBC super-middleweight champion. Some of his biggest victories are wins over Carl Froch, Anthony Mundine and Markus Beyer. Kessler said: “Since that first fight, I have become even stronger. I am fresh, I am healthy and I am ready to defeat him once again.”
Carl Froch
Carl Froch is one of the best British boxers. Froch was born in 1977 and is a three-time world champion. He won 30 out of his 32 professional fights and only lost to Mikkel Kessler and Andre Ward. The IBF enforced Froch and he knocked out Lucian Bute in May 2012 after only five rounds. Froch’s last fight was his victory against Yusaf Mack in November. Froch said: “I seriously wish I was ringside myself for this fight because I’m gunning for revenge at all costs and the fight fans are in for a real treat.”
