Andre Schurrle completed his move from Bayer Leverkusen to Chelsea on Tuesday – and he has set his sights on helping the Blues repeat our Champions League success of 2012.
The German international became the first summer signing when he put pen-to-paper on a five-year deal. “I hope the Chelsea fans are really happy I am here, because that is how I feel,” said Schurrle. “It’s a great honour for me to play here – for this club and these supporters. I can’t wait to start training with the team and to play some matches for Chelsea.”
But the forward, who has scored seven times for his country, is not content with just moving to the Premier League – he wants to bring the biggest trophies to Stamford Bridge. “The Champions League is the greatest competition in elite football so I’m really looking forward to playing in it again,” he said. “I’m hoping we can emulate the Chelsea side from two seasons ago, but we’ll see. I definitely think the English teams have the quality and the players to be a serious threat in the Champions League.”
Former Chelsea captain, and all-time leading appearance maker, Ron Harris believes the signing of Schurrle is a positive addition to the Blues squad ahead of the 2013/14 season. “I’m pleased because he is another promising young lad to join the club,” said Chopper. “We’ve got a good squad of players in place and I think, with another couple of additions, we’ll be a formidable side next season. This first signing is a step in the right direction.“
In other transfer news, Corinthians player Paulinho is set to join Spurs in a £17m move next week. The Brazilian international will make his decision after the Confederations Cup. Leighton Baines is rumoured to intend a £12m move from Everton FC to Manchester United and reunite with former Everton Manager David Moyes. Carlos Tevez also just completed his 12m move from Manchester City to Juventus Turin and will wear the number 10. Hundreds of fans welcomed Tevez at the Milan’s Malpensa airport.
